When repairs call for crowning a tooth due to size of disease, needing bite strength or following a root canal procedure, Dr. Macaulay takes great care to make this as comfortable and conservative as possible. Dental crowns are very technique-sensitive and require longer appointments. This is a two-step process: preparing the tooth, and cementing the final crown. On the first appointment, the unhealthy portion of the tooth is removed, the tooth is reshaped, and a temporary crown is made. Our staff will review home care in this area while you are wearing a temporary crown. An impression is taken and sent to a lab that will fabricate your new crown to exacting standards. In specialty cases, you may be required to visit our off-site laboratory to get a color match of your teeth. The final crown is cemented two weeks later. While sensitivity is expected, it is usually short-lived
