Teeth whitening is a very popular procedure, and is one of the safest and easiest ways to improve and brighten your smile. As we get older, teeth tend to darken up with coffee and tea stains, smoking, dark fruits, acidic diets, and soda intake. Whitening reverses the darkening of teeth by using peroxide-based products to dissolve the stain. This can be accomplished either here in our office or at home. In-office whitening is performed by our trained clinicians and is complete in about one-and-a-half hours. At-home whitening requires coming in to have a custom impression taken so that our lab can fabricate trays for you to whiten at home. You will be given a supply kit and instructions on how to carry out the procedure at home. At-home whitening takes about 2-3 weeks to achieve optimal results. All whitening procedures have the potential to cause sensitivity to cold for a short period after the procedure. Our office will instruct you on the best way to control that. It is recommended that you use an over-the-counter toothpaste for sensitive teeth for about 2 weeks prior to beginning the whitening process to minimize sensitivity.
